Last week we took a mini historical field trip to the old schoolhouse. Children were educated here from 1840 up until 1910. It housed about ninety children in all. It was very interesting to hear how the children were educated and lived back then. Most children had chores to do before going to school each morning and some children had to walk miles to the school, sometimes barefoot!!! Each child had to bring a sod of turf to keep the fire going for the day. We all found the stories very interesting and the children were amazed and shocked by life back then. Many thanks to Peter Pilkington who told us all about it and gave us the grand tour.
