Green Schools 2011/2012

Green Schools Information

As you know, our school has been taking part in the An Taisce Green- Schools programme. Our school has been very successful to date in running the first three themes of the programme: Litter & Waste, Energy and Water. This year, our school is starting the 4th theme in the Green-Schools programme: Travel.
The aim of the Travel Theme is to promote sustainable travel to school across-
Ireland, such as walking, cycling, car-pooling or taking public transport. Raising awareness on road safety and sustainable travel also plays a large role in the Travel theme.
Travelling to school should be an enjoyable, safe and healthy experience for us all and is a great opportunity for children to interact with peers, learn about their local environment and get exercise.
It is a challenging programme and one that will involve you as our school community. Katherine Poxon one of the An Taisce Travel Education Officer for the Kildare region, will be working closely with us in order to help us achieve our goals. She will provide support in getting the travel theme established in terms of schools visits,
presentations, incentives, offering ideas, guidance and supporting training of teachers and pupils when the need arises.
You can also find out more about sustainable travel in the travel section on the Green-Schools website www.greenschoolsireland.org
Keep watching our website and Greenschool’s Noticeboard
for ‘Travel’ events and activities happening in our school in
order to achieve our 4th flag!
